Did you know that your GP has been instructed not to prescribe for 35 common minor issues due to cost saving. That's actually fine (the prescribed meds cost more on prescription than over the counter many times) and as a Homeopath I think its great because you can learn to self prescribe Homeopathy. Over the coming Weeks I will share a blog on each condition and the top four remedies to choose from. If you don't yet have a home Homeopathic Kit, call Helios Pharmacy to obtain one. +44 (0)1892 537254 (14 lines)

Top things to look at when choosing a remedy are;
Why did it start ? do you have a clear reason, i.e. injury, exposure to cold/wet etc
What does it feel like? Sharp, stabbing, throbbing, raw, sore, torn, pushing out or in.
What is the location of the problem, left or right side, does it move, is it constant or pulsing?
What makes it feel better or worse? Position i.e. bending over double, hot compress, cold compress, cold fluids or warm fluids, eating, sleep, fresh air?
Today we start with :Acute Sore Throat
Top tips:
What does the throat look like ? If there is white pus/spots or streaks speak to a Homeopath.
Is there a fever? If yes, speak to a Homeopath to support the fever and monitor the patient. Tissue salts can be helpful. Fever shouldn't be suppressed unless the person is very lethargic and/or under 1 year old. If the fever is below 38 oC try to support it with the right tissue salts (Speak to your homeopath) and electrolyte fluids.
What's worse; swallowing empty, swallowing food, swallowing warm fluid or cold fluid?
What are the other symptoms? feeling tired, weak. Bone pains, shivers, headache, gastric symptoms etc.
If there is a rash make sure it blanches white on rolling a glass over it and if it doesn't, see a Dr immediately.

The universal 'safe bet' potency is 30c and most Home kits come in this strength.
You can place one pill in a 500ml bottle of water, shake and sip until improvement is noted (this may look like a restful sleep, fever reducing (or peaking and then reducing), increase in energy or reduction in pain. Or a general sense of feeling better.
When you see improvement: pause the sipping and return to it if the symptoms worsen again. Continue in this manner.
If the persons symptoms' change dramatically a new remedy may be needed.

If you feel the person is deteriorating despite Homeopathy get expert help/medical assistance.
